Welcome to the tenth episode of the YCM Insider Weekend Roundup.

Last year, Google updated its quality rater guidelines and added an extra E to the well-known E-A-T concept.

Anyway, it’s been one month since the content quality rating system changed.

According to Google, the extra E stands for “experience”, and it will help content written by someone with first-hand experience rank higher on the SERPs.

But has that been the case?

Maybe, and maybe not.

You have to keep reading to find out.

In the meantime, here’s what’s to come in this edition:

  • Hubspot’s Co-founder backs new professional networking platform
  • Awesome Motive acquires Thrive Themes
  • Canva’s Competition raises $11.6M in Funding.
  • 24 ways ChatGPT can hasten your SEO efforts
  • Why alternative pages are great investments for B2B SaaS companies

Let’s dive in:

SaaS Stories of the Week

👉 Hubspot’s Co-founder Backs New Professional Networking Platform

LinkedIn is the most popular professional networking platform with over 900 million users. But many feel it should do better at connecting professionals with opportunities….

…Rather than becoming another content creation and distribution platform.

Fortunately, Peerlist was recently launched to bridge that gap.

Peerlist helps professionals to network based on their expertise and qualification.

This makes it easier to showcase your work and connect with like minds.

One feature on the platform we also like is work experience.

Even though LinkedIn does this, there’s no verification system in place, making it easier for some accounts to falsify their experience.

On Peerlist, every work experience will be verified with a work email before they’re added to your profile.

Currently, the platform is at 200k users but hopes to grow to 1M by the end of 2023.

👉 Canva’s Competition Raises $11.6M in Funding.

Currently sitting at a $26B valuation, Canva has dominated the DIY design industry. However, there are more gaps to fill in ease of use.

And Berlin-based startup — Kittl is looking to explore that. Fresh out of a $11.6M funding round led by Left Lane Capital, Kittl is looking to expand on its value proposition of turning ideas into graphics.

But how’s Kittl different from Canva?

The major difference we’ve seen so far is that Canva helps you create beautiful graphics through its templates.

Kittl does the same, except that they provide more professional outcomes than Canva.

Does that mean Kittl is better?

Canva took many years to get to where it’s, and Kittl will most likely go through the same phase.

But at the moment, Canva is miles ahead of Kittl: larger template library, more design categories, and use case.

👉 Thrive Themes is Now Part of the WPBeginner Family of Products

Awesome motive, one of the fastest-growing software companies and providers of known solutions like OptinMonster and WpForms has acquired Thrive Themes.

The acquisition means Thrive Themes will now be a part of the WPBeginners family of products and would be accessible to over 21 million websites currently using Awesome motive’s solutions.

In addition, users will be able to leverage Thrive theme’s suites to create a website, and also convert visitors to customers using their online marketing tools.

👉 5 Skills the Best Writers Master [Twitter thread]

What is the most challenging task for modern writers?

Grabbing and keeping the reader’s attention over long-form content.

It’s much easier to get readers to go through a thousand-word blog post than another that’s 5X the same length.

Erica Schneider shares a few tips that can help you out:

You can achieve this by asking questions and structuring your content so that it has a premise, presents a claim, and includes your takeaway.

Just as we do with every post on Your Content Mart’s blog.

You can only achieve this with zero fluff and by presenting unique insights.

  • Speaking to intent: Understand the reader’s Job-to-be-done and speak to their pain points.
  • Detailed research: Experience helps, but it can be borrowed: Watch trends, conversations, and industry insights.
  • Self-editing: Edit your ugly first draft to end up with a masterpiece.

👉 Why Alternative Pages are Great Investments

People turn to Google to seek alternatives to existing solutions.

It could be software, service, or brand.

Whether the reason for this search is down to pricing, use case, or better features, such searchers have a high buying intent and are likely to become users.

In this detailed post by Foundation Marketing, you will discover:

  • How alternative pages work
  • How to match search intent to capture low-hanging fruits
  • Leverage alternative pages to boost conversion and drive qualified leads

👉 How to Use ChatGPT to Hasten SEO Efforts

Earlier this month, SEO specialist Matt Tutt interviewed 24 SEO experts to discover how they’re incorporating ChatGPT into their SEO process.

Here are some great picks from the article:

  • Aleyda Solis: Leverage ChatGPT for keyword research, topic clusters, and rephrasing content to avoid duplication
  • Zoe Ashbridge, SEO Consultant @For Ranks: Generate structured data without worrying about a dev, e.g., Create FAQ schema questions
  • James Taylor, Founder Digital tool report: Create Google sheet formulae when doing manual competitor link analysis.
  • Adam Brown: AIDS keyword research y classifying by search intent

4 down! 20 more to go.

👉 Evaluating How E-E-A-T has impacted the SERPs

In December, Google updated its content quality rater from EAT to EEAT. The extra E, which stands for “experience,” was meant to evaluate pages based on first-hand experience.

This means that when writing an article about how to create a content strategy, Google expects that you’ve created one yourself and have a unique experience to share with the reader.

But how has E-E-A-T impacted the SERPs?

Are websites already taking a hit?

This informative blog post from Tech SEO expert — Harpreet Singh provides answers.

Harpreet has spent the last 30 days analyzing how EEAT has impacted page ranking on Google’s first page.

His analysis cuts across several industries: both B2B and B2C.

What I’m Currently Thinking…

Leveling up your SEO game is necessary if you want to compete on the SERPs in 2023.

And YouTube should be your go-to platform for that. Unfortunately, most SEO channels on YouTube cover basic information.

Here are some that cover expert-level content:

  • Gotch SEO: Owned by SEO expert Nathan Gotch; hence expect expert-level content and lots of case studies
  • Semrush: Detailed playlist that covers several parts of SEO: keyword research, backlinks, and competitor research. The playlist — “Small business, Big results with Brian Dean” contains a collection of interviews with SEO experts.
  • Robbie Richards: His SEO playlist takes viewers from the beginning to the advanced level. Videos are arranged based on difficulty level: from keyword research and search intent to link building.
  • Ryan Stewart: Useful information on how to scale your business with SEO, plus how to build and manage an SEO agency
