Hey

Welcome to the fifth edition of The YCM Insider weekend roundup.

The last few weeks were dominated by the news of AI stealing our jobs. This was reinforced after the launch of ChatGPT — an AI-trained model that interacts like humans.

This tool seems to be the closest we’ve come to technology replicating human behavior. While it’s easy to dismiss, I think marketers and content creators should see it more as an ally and not an enemy

Obviously, the marketing landscape is about to witness a drastic change in the coming years.

The big question is…

Will AI change content marketing for good or bad?

Well, only time will tell.

With that out of the way, here’s a roundup of what went down during the week:

Let’s dive in:

SaaS Stories of the Week

👉 Copy AI Hits $1M MRR

Copy AI’s Founder, Paul Yacoubian tweeted last week that the popular AI copywriting generator has hit $1M MRR. This means with their current monthly plan of $49; Copy AI has over 20,000 paying customers.

That’s impressive for a software that was launched about two years ago.

They’ve enjoyed much success from leveraging the “building in public” marketing model. Part of that strategy relied heavily on:

👉 SuperPath Acquires Help a B2B Writer

As news of product acquisitions continues to dominate headlines, Superpath’s founder, Jimmy Daly announced on LinkedIn last week, that the company has acquired Help a B2B Writer from its founder, Elise Dopson.

What does Help a B2B Writer do?

As its name suggests, the platform helps B2B writers solve the problem of creating expert-level content.

On the platform, a writer can seek insights from experts on any topic they’re writing about. Once done, an email is sent to subject matter experts who have raised hands to share their thoughts on the topic.

With the contributions from these SMEs, the writer can choose the most relevant ones for the article they’re writing about.

With Superpath’s acquisition, it’ll become much easier to integrate the platform into an existing community of 10,000+ content marketers.

I believe this acquisition could potentially help more B2B writers to create expert-level content that resonates with their target audience.

👉 Google Rolls Out Another Helpful Content Update

Google released the much anticipated December helpful content update earlier this week. The highlights of the update, which is set to take full effect a few days from now, include:

  • Signal to help Google identify content created for search engines and not humans.
  • The update now applies to content in all languages, not just English
  • More relevant content suggestions to readers

👉 How to Launch a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) [Twitter Thread]

An MVP is every founder’s currency for market validation. A well-executed MVP helps you measure interest and serves as a means of collecting feedback.

In this Twitter thread, Justin Welsh shares what makes a successful MVP launch.

Some of the key takeaways include:

  • Identify an unresolved problem in your market
  • Dissect conversations around similar products on G2, Capterra, or Product hunt

  • Create a detailed wireframe of your MVP

And many more.

👉 Should B2B SaaS Companies Start a Podcast?

What do B2B SaaS companies stand to gain from podcast production?

In the latest episode of Confession of a B2B marketer, host Tom Hunt interviews Mark Evans of Spark Marketing on the importance of Podcasting for B2B companies.

Some key points covered are:

  • Why B2B Companies steer away from Podcasting
  • How to leverage Podcasting to connect with key decision-makers
  • The role and value of an internal podcast for employees
  • Best ways to repurpose Podcast content

What I’m Currently Thinking

When it comes to creating a content strategy, we’ve discovered that most B2B SaaS startups start their keyword research process with competitor analysis, rather than customer research.

The problem with that approach is that you rob yourself of the chance to understand the customers and their pain points.

By focusing on customer research instead of competitor research, here are some benefits you’ll gain:

  • Identify potential topics that resonate with your ICP (prospects)
  • Find out who your real competitors are.
  • Determine your product’s core features and use cases.
  • Figure out their pain points and Jobs To Be Done

Tool of the Week

The news about ChatGPT has been all over every headline and social media posts. The AI chatbot which is programmed to converse with humans naturally, reportedly hit 1 million users in 5 days after its launch.

But the question on our mind is, how will this affect content marketers?

Some of the best use cases of ChatGPT for content marketing include:

  • Auto-generate texts for FAQ sections.
  • Create content outlines and research sheets in minutes.
  • Curate links to recent articles published around a specific keyword for your newsletters.
